Who doesn’t love shopping? Well, I do, and with utmost sincerity. Every month or so, I like to visit my favorite outlet mall and indulge in shopping.
eCommerce is growing very fast. Look at Amazon, Zappos, Alibaba, Etsy, eBay and a few others that I might be missing to mention. But what is it that has made this happen?
- Convenience of shopping at home
- Better deals
- Free shipping
- Easy return (I’ve had great experience with Amazon)
- Quick and easy process
Recently, I’ve read so many news of retail stores shutting down, The Limited being the biggest shock to me; Sears, Macy’s, and many more. But, one thing to keep into consideration is they are going to keep their online business running.
As a consumer, I still love going to a retail store to get a feel of the clothes/shoes that I am going to buy, for myself and my kids, but if I analyze a little further, I think I have moved to buying online almost 80% of the time. Amazon is a big hit at my house for sure.
For technology, equipments (refrigerator, washer/dryer, etc.), bathroom essentials, fashion accessories, I understand that it’s easier to buy them online. But clothes and shoes? For clothing, services like Stitch Fix, Trunk Club and a few others have made it easier to try and buy at home for free. But for shoes, I still believe there is a great big demand for retail market, and I cannot imagine a day when they go online as well!
Considering that in addition to announcements from retail stores about closing down, is it time to believe that we are moving to an online shopping era a 100%?
